B Sc (honours) in Human Genetics
M Sc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
While doing my undergrad, I worked at IGA and started as cashier, then customer service, then
cash office (upstairs, balancing all the receipts with the computer systems).
When I moved to Calgary with my fiancé, I started at Green Drop in data entry, and then moved
over to Accounts payable. I took some evening courses at Bow Valley College for an accounting
certificate. My official title at Green Drop is Assistant Controller and I do the day to day
accounting (payables, receivables, payroll, bank reconciliation). When I started there were
about ten general ledgers that I handled, and now there are 60. I am the sole bookkeeper, and if
I have questions, I work with two CPA accountants as my bosses. (I chose not to pursue
advanced schooling for accounting because my husband needed me at home.) I also do the
GST returns, and multi-province PST returns. I handle the WCB estimates and payroll reviews.
I do not prepare the corporate taxes, however I am curious to learn. I have a basic
understanding of grant applications from my time working in science.
I am not easily phased by chaos, as I live in it at work. I love to find new ways to organize the
chaos.
And as I am typing this, a cat is very determinedly trying to tell me to pet her instead of play on
this computer, so I can do multiple things at once!
